"Happy Half-Birthday!" We celebrated an emperor penguin chick that turned six months old.

The emperor penguin chick born on September 30, 2025, turned six months old today (March 30, 2026), and we held an event to celebrate its half-birthday.
We presented it with an ice cake as a gift! The adult penguins seemed to be watching over it from nearby.

A rare sight that can only be seen during the "juvenile" stage between infancy and adulthood.
After the park opened, many guests gathered at the Marine Mammal Pavilion and shouted, "Happy half-birthday!" to send their well-wishes.

They ate their meals with great appetite and had their weight measured. Surrounded by lots of penguins, they’re growing up strong and healthy!

At the venue, animal educators (care staff) gave a presentation explaining the penguins’ growth process from birth to the present. A penguin robot created by park staff also made an appearance! Modeled after a 40-day-old chick, the robot demonstrated lifelike movements, such as flapping its wings and nodding its head. Using this robot, we demonstrated how the chicks are fed and shared insights into the care and techniques involved in raising them.

At birth, the emperor penguin chick weighed just 200 grams and was small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but during today’s weigh-in, it had grown to about 21 kilograms. During pool training that began in early February, it was initially afraid of the water, but now it dives in on its own and spends more time underwater. We would be delighted if you could continue to warmly watch over the growth of this emperor penguin chick.
