Preserving animal lives for the future Tama Zoological Park welcomes four rare Black-faced Spoonbills—each sporting a uniquely shaped spoonbill! Now on display at BIRDTOPE

2026年02月20日(金)

Adventure World welcomed four black-faced spoonbills from Tama Zoological Park (Hino City, Tokyo) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, with the aim of future breeding. They began public viewing at BIRDTOPE on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The Black-faced Spoonbill is a globally rare bird, designated as Critically Endangered (IB) and a Domestic Rare Wild Animal and Plant Species in Japan. Despite its scarce population, its appearance is utterly charming. Its unique feeding behavior, skillfully using its spoon-shaped beak—which inspired its name—is a must-see.
We warmly invite you to observe the Black-faced Spoonbills living freely in the natural-like environment recreated at BIRDTOPE. We also hope this opportunity sparks your interest in the protection of rare species and the current state of wildlife.

*Currently, they are living in an enclosed area within BIRDTOPE to acclimate to the space. However, we plan to allow them to freely fly around the entire area in the future.

【About BIRDTOPE】

BIRDTOPE is a new area launched in July 2025 as a "hub of life" where birds can live freely in a natural environment and nest with peace of mind.
Here, we aim for natural bird rearing while recreating an "ecological environment" where diverse aquatic life coexists alongside birds. You can observe the interconnected "life cycle system" of living creatures up close.
Currently, the pink-backed pelicans and two species of flamingos living in "BIRDTOPE" have begun laying eggs.
Every "life" lives at its own rhythm. This is a place where you can discover and experience the beauty of such an everyday, seemingly ordinary yet irreplaceable reality.
