アドベンチャーワールドは、１１月１日（土）の計量記念日にちなみ、エンペラーペンギンの赤ちゃん（９月３０日生まれ）の公開体重測定を行います。
　ペンギンをはじめとする多くの鳥類の保育において、体重の推移を見守ることは非常に重要です。エンペラーペンギンの赤ちゃんは、誕生後に飼育スタッフが初期の人工育雛を行い、体重の変化を見ながら自然育雛にもチャレンジしてきました。
　出生時２９５．９ｇだった赤ちゃんの体重は、生後１か月でどのぐらいになったでしょうか？

親鳥主体の子育て方法にチャレンジ ～未来の繁殖を見据えて～
アドベンチャーワールドでは当初、赤ちゃんが無事卵からかえり成長することを重視し、体重４０kg近くある親鳥が 卵をつぶしてしまわないよう人の手で育てる「完全人工育雛」を行っていました。２００４年に初めて赤ちゃんが 誕生しましたが、完全人工育雛によって育った赤ちゃんは、人間を親と認識し、成鳥となってもペアを作らず、次の世代の繁殖につながらない可能性があります。２０１２年よりアドベンチャーワールドでは、卵を親から預かり、 孵卵器にて孵化させ、その後、赤ちゃんの体重がある程度成長するまで人の手で育て、体力をつけてから親鳥へ返す「初期人工育雛」という方法にたどり着きました。

【About Emperor Penguins】

■Scientific Name: Aptenodytes forsteri
■Common Name: Emperor Penguin
■Habitat: Antarctic continent and surrounding waters
■Lifespan: Approximately 30 years
■Diet: Fish, squid, krill, etc. At Adventure World, they are primarily fed large-scale fish and Pacific saury.
■Breeding:Only two species breed on the Antarctic continent: the medium-sized Adélie penguin and the Emperor penguin. While Adélies breed during summer when snow melts and rocky areas become exposed, Emperor penguins begin breeding on winter ice fields where temperatures can reach minus 60 degrees Celsius. They raise their chicks through a period of fasting lasting approximately 120 days, earning them the title of "the bird with the world's most demanding parenting."They reach sexual maturity at around five years of age. After laying eggs, females head to the sea to forage, while males remaining at the breeding site fast and incubate the eggs for about two months.
■Characteristics: The world's largest penguin, reaching approximately 120 cm in height and weighing about 40 kg, it is characterized by vivid yellow coloring on the sides of its head and upper chest.They are also the only penguins with patterned chicks, which display a tri-color plumage of white, black, and gray from birth until their first molt. Adult Emperor Penguins closely resemble King Penguins, but King Penguins are smaller, measuring about 90 cm in height, and can be distinguished by their orange upper chest.
