On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Adventure World welcomed the birth of the park's 16th baby Emperor Penguin. We are currently conducting "initial artificial brood rearing," and from October 21 (Tue.), the baby will be moved to a young pair separate from the parent birds and will be transitioned to natural brood rearing.
　After laying eggs, the eggs were kept warm in an incubator to prevent damage to the eggs, and the parent birds of the baby birds were given a mock egg (a plaster cast of an egg that resembles a real egg in shape and texture) to hold in order to maintain the egg-holding posture. However, the parent birds abandoned the artificial eggs halfway through the incubation, so we decided to leave the babies in the care of a younger pair, who had no experience raising eggs, to gain experience in child rearing. The young pair's learning through the growth of their babies is an important step toward future breeding. We will continue to watch over them as they raise their young to ensure that their lives will be a link to the future.

[Challenging parent-bird-centered child-rearing methods - with an eye on future breeding]
In the beginning, Adventure World focused on the safe return and growth of the babies from the eggs, In 2004, the first baby was born. Since 2012, Adventure World has been using a new method called "Early Artificial Rearing," in which the eggs are taken from the parents, incubated in an incubator, and then raised by human hands until the babies reach a certain weight and strength before being returned to their parents.

About "Early Artificial Rearing "

１９９７年：エンペラーペンギン繁殖研究開始
２００４年：日本で初めてエンペラーペンギンの赤ちゃんが誕生。世界でも２園館目となる貴重な出来事でした。
２００４ 年～２０１１年：完全人工育雛によって計６羽の赤ちゃんが誕生・成長。
２０１２年：初期人工育雛に初めて挑戦するものの、親鳥の給餌がみられず、完全人工育雛に切り替える。
２０１３年：エンペラーペンギンの繁殖において、初めて親鳥からの給餌を確認。（初めて初期人工育雛に成功）
２０１５年：初期人工育雛に挑戦するものの、親鳥からの給餌がみられるまで約３か月かかり、その間はスタッフが給餌を行う。
２０１６年：初期人工育雛に挑戦してから４羽目、累計１０羽目の赤ちゃんが誕生。親鳥のもとへ返し、約２週間後には親鳥からの給餌がみられ無事に成長。
２０１７年～２０２１年：計５羽の赤ちゃんが誕生し、初期人工育雛にチャレンジ。
２０２５年：９月３０日に１６羽目の赤ちゃんが誕生。


【エンペラーペンギン　未来の繁殖に向けて】
現在、日本国内でエンペラーペンギンを飼育しているのはアドベンチャーワールドと愛知県の名古屋港水族館の２園館のみです。当パークではこれまで誕生した１６羽の赤ちゃん（今回の赤ちゃんを含む）はすべて同じ両親から生まれており、血統の偏りが課題となっています。未来の繁殖のため２００９年より、２園館でブリーディングローンを開始しました。２０１９年の３月には１０年ぶりにブリーディングローンとして１羽ずつ血統交換を行いました。さらに、ペアを作って産卵をしても有精卵に繋がらないペアも多く、人工授精などにもチャレンジしています。引き続き、有精卵に繋がるように取り組んでまいります。

※ブリーディングローンとは
希少な動物を絶やさず増やしていくために、動物園や水族館同士で動物を貸したり借りたりする制度のことです。双方で協力して種の保存に取り組んでいます。ブリーディングローンの実施により、希少動物のペア飼育や群飼育が進み、たくさんの動物が繁殖に成功しています。

アドベンチャーワールドでは、１９７８年の開園時にフンボルトペンギンとキタイワトビペンギンの飼育を開始し、１９９０年から自然界で暮らすペンギンコロニー（繁殖群）を再現すべく、「ペンギンプロジェクト」として本格的に飼育・繁殖研究に力を注いできました。アデリーペンギン、ヒゲペンギン、ジェンツーペンギン、キングペンギンと繁殖実績を積み、１９９７年に世界最大のペンギン、エンペラーペンギンの繁殖研究を開始しました。

■Diet: Fish, squid, krill, etc. At Adventure World, they are primarily fed large-scale fish and Pacific saury.
■Breeding: Only two species breed on the Antarctic continent: the medium-sized Adélie penguin and the Emperor penguin.While Adélie penguins breed during summer when rocky areas become exposed after snow melts, Emperor penguins begin breeding on winter ice fields where temperatures can reach minus 60 degrees Celsius. They raise their chicks through a period of fasting lasting approximately 120 days, earning them the title of "the bird with the world's most demanding parenting." They reach sexual maturity around age 5.After laying eggs, females return to the sea to forage, while males remaining at the breeding site fast and incubate the eggs for about two months.
