May they grow up well☆ Penguin Festival season has arrived! A baby king penguin was born!

Wednesday, February 26, 2025

Adventure World (Shirahama-cho, Wakayama Prefecture) celebrated its baby king penguin season in February 2025 with the birth of four babies.
Three of the babies are currently being artificially raised at the non-public facility "Penguin Base. (One died on the second day after birth).
Adventure World is home to approximately 100 king penguins, the most of any breeding facility in Japan.
To maintain genetic diversity, we are actively engaged in both natural and artificial breeding.
King penguins are the second largest of all 18 penguin species (85-95 cm in length), and when they grow up, the yellow patterns on their chest and head are very colorful, making them the most beautiful penguins in the world.
We will keep you posted on SNS and other social networking sites, so please keep a close eye on the baby penguin's growth and development.

■Date of birth: February 9, 12, 22, and 23, 2025
■Number of hatchlings: 4 in total (one of them died on the second day after birth)
■Body weight: The baby weighs about 200g.
Sex: Unconfirmed
■Parent Information: Lives at Penguin Base in Adventure World

We are working on artificial rearing until the baby's weight grows to about 300g, which is stable.
Baby penguins eat fish and other food that is digested in their stomachs and spit out by the parent birds. During artificial rearing, we feed herring, krill, cream, and water in a liquid concentrate in a syringe through a rubber tube.
The baby king penguins are currently only available to participants of the Marine World Wish!
We will post the baby king penguins on SNS and other social networking sites as needed.

About Adventure World Penguin Project】
Adventure World started breeding Humboldt penguins and northern penguins when it opened in 1978, and in 1990, it began a full-scale breeding and breeding research project called the "Penguin Project" to reproduce a penguin colony (breeding group) that lives in the natural world. Since 1990, we have been focusing on breeding and reproduction research as the "Penguin Project" to reproduce a penguin colony (breeding group) living in the wild.
We have bred Adelie penguins, bearded penguins, gentoo penguins, and king penguins, and in 1997, we started breeding research on Emperor penguins, the world's largest penguin.
