Panda Bamboo Project - Let's make a ring with bamboo! Decorated with bamboo leftover from giant pandas! Panda Bamboo Rings Lite" workshop will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Adventure World (Shirahama-cho, Wakayama Prefecture) is working on the "Panda Bamboo Project" to contribute to solving social issues by making effective use of bamboo left uneaten by pandas. As part of the project, a "Panda Bamboo Ringing Lite" workshop will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, where participants will make rings out of bamboo and complete them by decorating them with bamboo leftover by giant pandas.

What is the "Panda Bamboo Project"?
The project aims to protect the satoyama environment by cutting down bamboo that devastates the satoyama and using it as food for giant pandas, and to promote upcycling of bamboo trunks, uneaten bamboo (90 to 100 tons per year), and feces that giant pandas do not eat, which were previously disposed of, as effective resources. In the summer of 2019, the project will begin producing and exhibiting "bamboo lights" using the bamboo trunks that the pandas do not eat, and is also preparing for practical use as compost and pavement material, with the aim of creating a recycling-oriented park.

What is "Panda Bamboo Ring Lite"?
We use Kyoto bamboo processed by craftsmen and insert a bamboo stick made of bamboo left over by giant pandas to decorate one point. The ring is made of strong bamboo from Kyoto. Finally, a bamboo ladder made from the bamboo left uneaten on the playground will be inserted into the ring to complete it.

(1) Listen to an explanation about bamboo culture and social issues. (1) You will hear an explanation about the culture and social issues of bamboo.
(2) Participants will experience making their own original rings by combining bamboo rings made by the hands of craftsmen at a workshop that has been making Kenninji fences and other traditional bamboo products for 60 years in Kyoto, a bamboo production center, with bamboo actually left uneaten by giant pandas (processed into bamboo strips) and bamboo produced in Kyoto.
(3) Panda bamboo (leftover bamboo) has low strength. It is difficult to weave it into a ring, so it will be simply inserted into a ring made of Kyoto bamboo.
(4) The panda's leftover bamboo (bamboo strips) to be used in the workshop can be selected from among the six panda family members (due to the limited number of pandas, you may not be able to select your favorite panda if the number of pandas is too large). (Please note that the number of pandas is limited, and you may not be able to select your favorite panda if the number of pandas is too large.
