Malayan tapir female to be brought in and bred.

On October 2, 2009, we welcomed a female from the Yokohama Zoo (Zoorasia) for breeding with the Malayan tapir brought in in March. Although she was kept in a transport box for a long time during the trip, she showed no signs of fatigue and started eating the food we had prepared for her soon after her arrival.
The next day, we immediately arranged a meeting with the male. We took the male out to the exercise yard and brought him face to face with the female in the bedroom through the cage. The male was very concerned about the female and kept peeking into the room. The female, on the other hand, did not seem that interested in the male.
Six days after we brought them in, we took the female out to the exercise yard for the first time. After a week, she seemed to have settled down in the exercise area and became accustomed to the male she was facing through the cage. After a week, they became more comfortable in the exercise yard and got used to seeing the male in the cage.
At first, the male chased the female around, and the female did not like it and flew her urine toward the back. However, as time went by, the female began to calm down. Now they can be seen getting along well together in the pool.
We hope that a baby will be born between them as soon as possible. (Kazunari Nakamura)
