Media Exposure

Through various types of mass media, including TV documentaries and print publications, our joint research on panda breeding and its results have spread around the world.

In September 2016, Kyodo News' PR Wire started to distribute news about our pandas around the nation, and the part was picked up by various media outlets. Special news, like announcements of the birth of panda cubs, even distributed internationally.
In March and April 2017, NHK's documentary program Today's Close-up showed a feature titled "World Focus! Raising Panda Cubs—Total Coverage of 180 Days of Love and Tears," and NHK Special ran a feature titled "The Miracle Panda Family—A Family Tale of Love and Tears," which together brought our panda family to 12.5 million viewers across the nation. These programs not simply showed the adorable panda cubs, but also covered our joint breeding research and the devoted contribution of our staff in supporting the pandas, informing the audience of Adventure World's joint research with the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. In January 2020, the documentary program Family History, which stars celebrities and explores their roots, featured Saihin, the panda cub born weighing only 75 grams in 2018. This was the first time the program ever centered on an animal. With around 7 million views, the program helped the public learn about our panda family's history and the efforts taken to protect the species.
In 2007 we self-published a book titled Panda Secrets. We then went on to publish more books such as Adventure World—More and More Pandas! in 2015, which would be followed by a series of photo books including World's Number 1 Panda Family—Wakayama Adventure World's Panda Family and HELLO PANDA—Pandas of Adventure World in 2017. Our panda family is also featured in many children's encyclopedias and magazines.
