Publications

Research activities in the field of giant panda husbandry, breeding research and veterinary medicine are reported at various conferences including
China Giant Panda Breeding Technical Committee,
and in Japan at
conferences organized by the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The Park has participated in the Giant Panda Breeding Technical Committee meetings held in China and overseas almost every year, actively presenting joint breeding results and exchanging information with researchers. 2009 JAZA (Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums) meeting, "Giant Panda Blood Collection by Husbandry Training" was presented. At that time in Japan, cetaceans, pinnipeds, and elephants were being managed for health through training, but this had not been applied to other animals. The Park's announcement, together with the fact that the idea of animal welfare was beginning to spread in Japan, also led to the expansion of Husbandry Training in captive animals in Japan.
We are also involved in joint research with universities and research institutes. Since 2000, when breeding began to take off, we have been working with Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine to analyze the composition of panda milk, and with Morimilk Sunworld to develop a new Panda Milk-10, and research on reproductive physiology with Kobe University.
